we never understand now until it s gone
i don’t know until you ve left me. everyone
is always so eager to be a part of everything that
they keep throwing away their drinks and jumping
in. and the past runs up to scratch my back so
i stand at the side with my eyes close rather than
watch them drown. i m so scared of floating again
that instead i clutch my rum and eggs so tightly that
i began to realise that the real meaning of glass. to me
you are tangerines when i won t eat oranges, and
so you won t know me until i m gone. you are a reminder
that there is no fool-proof way of swimming and so you
must forgive me if i am terrified by you
