WKCR Hijacking
Recorded in 1994 or 1995, “the Old Tape” as it’s called is purportedly of a hijack of Columbia University’s WKCR 89.9 radio signal. The primary voice on the audio is reading what appear to be obituaries including the name of Robert Oppenheimer, considered to the be father of the atomic bomb. Most of the names are form New Yorkers that where still alive at the time of the WKCR Hijacking.
The interruption in the transmission is absolutely terrifying – one theory is that the listener accidentally tuned into a numbers station, stations that are widely believed to communicate with spy networks. The audio hijack consists of high-pitched glassy sounds married with fast, garbled female-sounding speech and the occasional striking of what sounds like a small bell. Whatever it is, it’s some seriously haunted shit.
